Functional Strength, Mobility and Balance Assessments

Are you ready to try some more? These assessments are more challenging, and some will require you to get on and up from the floor. Please do these assessments with someone present to help you if needed.

#1 Lower Body Strength, Mobility and Balance

Stand up from a chair without using your hands to help. If you need to use your arms, is it because of poor balance or decreased leg strength?

#2 Upper Body Posture and Alignment

Lie with your back on the floor. Can the back of your head comfortably touch the floor, without any support, such as a pillow(s)?

#3 Lower Body Mobility

Lie on your back, bend, and bring one or both of your knees to touch your ribs.

#4 Lower Body Mobility and Strength

Lie on your back, lift one leg up towards the ceiling to at least 80 degrees while keeping your other leg’s heel touching the floor. Your raised leg should be straight, no bending at the knee. Repeat with the other leg.

#5 Abdominal Strength

Lie on your back with your hands slightly touching the back of your head. Tuck your chin and bring your head, shoulders and arms off the floor, to a height that your shoulder blades do not touch the floor.

# 6 Rolling - Full Body Strength & Mobility

Lie on your back with your hands above your head, roll to the right onto your stomach and then to the left onto your stomach and then return to lying on your back.

#7 Full Body Strength, Mobility and Balance

Stand up from lying with your back on the floor.

#8 Full Body Strength, Mobility and Balance

Stand on one leg for 10 sec. while keeping your other leg raised to the height of your waist. Your raised leg should not touch your standing leg. Repeat with your other leg. Please stand next to a wall or something sturdy to grab onto in case you lose your balance.
